Pentagon gripped by 'climate of fear' with more officer firings on tap during war: expert

Building upon her report from last week about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s purge of the military leadership at the Pentagon, which included Army Chief of Staff General Randy George, The Atlantic’s Nancy Youssef claimed the military leadership is walking on eggshells, hoping they survive the Donald Trump appointee’s wrath.

Appearing on MS NOW’s “Way too Early” with fill-in host Jackie Alemany, Youssef claimed there are growing concerns that no one can offer their true opinion about the controversial war in Iran, which has become increasingly dangerous for the troops on the ground.

“People in the Pentagon don't know the reasons for these firings,” the national security expert reported. “It creates a climate of uncertainty and people are fearful to come forward and sort of raise concerns, potentially about matters related to the military, including the conduct of the war.”

“And that could have real-world impacts on how the United States is conducting this war,” she continued.

“And I would just add, there's a feeling that there are more of these coming because we've had more than two dozen generals and admirals pushed out in the past 15 months,” she added. “The entire tenure of the secretary's time at the Pentagon, starting from the chairman [Gen. Dan Caine] within weeks of arrival. “

“And so it really has changed the tenor of the building: it's a climate of fear, frankly,” she concluded.
