Barretto family matriarch Inday Barretto dies
MANILA, Philippines – Estrella “Inday” Barretto, the mother of Claudine, Marjorie, and Gretchen, died on Thursday, January 29. She was 89.
Her death was first confirmed by her son Joaquin, who changed his Facebook profile picture to a candle.
“Rest in peace, Mom. I love you,” he wrote.
Claudine later posted a tribute video, which included photos of her with Inday in the hospital.
She also shared a video of what appeared to be Inday’s final moments. “Mommy, we’re gonna be okay. I promise!” the actress wrote.
Inday had just appeared on Ogie Diaz’s YouTube channel in October 2025 to talk about Claudine’s relationship with her ex-husband, Raymart Santiago, motherhood, and the rift between her three daughters.
In the two-part interview, the Barretto matriarch admitted she preferred it when her daughters weren’t together, because being around each other often just led to arguments.
Inday also spoke about her relationship with Marjorie, Claudine, and Gretchen.
She claimed that her relationship with Marjorie was “hot and cold,” as Marjorie would sometimes supposedly not invite her to parties. However, she praised Gretchen for being good to her late husband Miguel, and even said that she would make it a point to defend her from the rumors that would plague her. She then said that it was Claudine who had a big heart.
Inday’s death comes nearly seven years after her husband Miguel’s passing in October 2019.
She leaves behind her children Mito, Michelle, Joaquin, Gia, Gretchen, Marjorie, and Claudine. – Rappler.com
